Expatax Guide

Find a credentialed expat-tax pro

Curated list of firms staffed by EAs, CPAs, and tax attorneys who focus on U.S. taxes for Americans abroad. We've evaluated each firm for credentials, expat-specific experience (FBAR, FEIE, Streamlined, PFICs), and pricing transparency.

How we evaluate firms
  • Credentials. Every firm has EAs, CPAs, or attorneys handling returns — not unlicensed preparers.
  • Expat focus. The firm dedicates at least a substantial portion of its book to Americans abroad, not domestic returns as a side business.
  • Pricing transparency. The firm will give a written fee quote up front for the scope of work, rather than open-ended hourly billing without a cap.
  • Specific-form experience. The firm has demonstrable experience with the forms most likely to apply to expats — 2555, 1116, FinCEN 114, 8938, 8621, 5471 — not just general 1040s.

We earn a referral fee when you engage a firm through one of these links. That doesn't affect which firms make the list — firms that don't meet the criteria above don't appear here regardless of what they offer to pay.
